The Open University is very different from other universities. It is the only university in the UK that specialises in part-time distance learning courses for adults (18 years old or over).
Open University students do not go away to university. Students study in their own homes using course books and guides, DVD, video or TV programmes, computers and the telephone. All students are supported by a personal tutor who also marks their work and gives them feedback and individual tutorial support.
Most Open University students work full-time or part-time and care for children or other relatives whilst they study.
You do not need any qualifications to study for a degree or undergraduate diploma at the Open University. Many of our students start without A levels or their equivalent.
The Open University has regional centres all over England. If you live in the North-West region you can ring us on:
0161 998 7007 or 0161 998 7478
or email us on north-west@open.ac.uk
