The University of Salford

The University of Salford is convenient and accessible.  It is three kilometres from Manchester City Centre, which is a superb cultural and social centre with excellent shopping and entertainment. There are excellent transport links into the city, with a railway station on campus and a regular bus service.  It is only a couple of minutes’ drive from the motorway network and less than 20 minutes drive from Manchester’s international airport.

The University has strong links with industry and the professions and we respond to the needs of employers. At least 74% of undergraduate programmes offer a placement year either in the UK or overseas providing valuable work experience. Our innovative programmes are informed with the latest research and over 90% of Salford graduates are in employment or go on to further study within six months of graduating.

The University provides high quality accommodation on or close to the campus. There are over 3,000 single study bedrooms on 4 sites all within a mile of the University. Student accommodation is guaranteed for first year students applying before 1 September. The application and booking process is fully on-line.  Each bedroom has its own telephone line. Broadband internet access, personal possessions insurance and membership of the University is included in the weekly rent. Dedicated accommodation is available to postgraduate students.

When can you visit us?

Guided tours of the university campus take place every Wednesday throughout the year and are conducted by current students. It is an excellent opportunity to find out more about the University, the facilities and the accommodation. You will also have the opportunity to visit a subject area of your choice or attend an open day on the same day. Uni Tours are aimed at applicants or those who are thinking of applying, but you are welcome to bring anyone who you would like to accompany you.

Summer Schools:

The Young Person's University (YPU) aims to provide a week long positive experience of higher education, run in collaboration with local schools and colleges. It gives pupils first-hand experience of life at university and college. Based at Salford University, a full timetable of exciting and stimulating learning activities for pupils in year 8 and 10 is run over a two-week period during the summer vacation. Activities range from simple robotics, pop and street dance, to learning how to canoe in the University's swimming pool. This summer school is non-residential and free to participants.

Over the next five years the University will invest almost £100 million on new and improved buildings and facilities. This includes the recently completed £16 million Mary Seacole building for health-related studies, a £28 million new state-of-the-art building (as part of the Adelphi Arts and Cultural Quarter) for students of Art and Design and Media, Music and Performance and a new Law School building which will be completed by 2007.
