When should I apply through UCAS?

When do I need to apply through UCAS ?

For the best chance of getting a place, your application needs to reach UCAS before the 15 January of the year that you want to start studying.

The earliest you can send in your application is the 1st September of the year before the one you want to study.  if you want to start in September 2011, you can apply between 1 September 2010 and 15 January 2011.

UCAS forwards your application to the universities for the courses you have chosen. The universities will consider late applications they receive between 15 January and 30 June of the year in which you want to study, but only if places are available.

After 30th June applications are processed through Clearing.

If you are applying for a course that starts in February, you should also send your application through UCAS, but talk to the relevant university first.

Mature students

Universities use different criteria for school-leavers and for students over 21. Mature students have other things to offer universities, so they may not have to meet the standard entry requirements that may be required of school-leavers.

To find out more about entry as a mature student you will need to contact the Admissions Office of the university where you want to study.

Part time and Open University courses

Part-time courses can start at any time of year and run for different lengths of time. Always ask the university of your choice directly about their part-time courses and send your applications for part-time courses to the university Admissions Office direct.

Applications for Open University places can be made at almost any time of the year. Open University courses start in February or May or September.
