Access to Learning Funds and Access Bursaries

Access to Learning funds are available directly from universities to help students from lower income households. Access funds help students with financial difficulty during their study. They are particularly designed for students who have little financial support and who are likely to struggle with the extra costs of being at university. Full-time students and part-time students whose study equals 50 per cent or more of full-time study can apply.

The funds are available from a university,  to help with living and course-related expenses, and sometimes for travel or childcare costs. Payment may be as a (non-repayable) grant or a short-term repayable loan.

There is no guarantee that you will get a grant or a loan, but if you are struggling financially and can show proof to the university, you may be awarded something.
