The Hardship Fund is designed to help those students who have higher than expected costs. Your university or college may be able to tell you before you start whether you may be entitled to help from the Hardship Fund. Unless you are a mature student you will normally be expected to have taken out a Hardship Loan before you can apply for help from the Hardship Fund. Payments from the Hardship Fund can range from £100 to £3500.
You may be eligible for a Hardship Loan of up to £500 to help with unexpected expenses or money problems. Hardship loans are only available to students who have already received the first instalment of your student loan and then find themselves in difficulties. Ask the university for information on how to apply. A hardship loan is repaid in the same way as a student loan, after you graduate.
