You can get financial help from the government if you are a part-time student. The amount of support depends on how intensive your part-time course is.

Help with tuition fees

Those students from lower income households who study part-time at 75% or more of a full-time course will be entitled to a maximum non-repayable grant of £1,180 to help with fees.

Those students who study part-time at 60% - 74% or more of a full-time course will be entitled to a maximum non-repayable grant of £945 to help with fees.

Those students who study at 50% - 59% of the full-time equivalent are entitled to a maximum non-repayable grant of £785 to help with fees.

Help with part-time course costs

A non-repayable grant of up to £255 is available to part-time students from lower income households to help meet the cost of books, travel and other course-related expenses. It is income assessed and is not based on the intensity of the course.

Help for disabled students

If you are a part-time student with a disability and are studying at least 50% of the full-time equivalent, you may be entitled to financial help with a non-repayable Disabled Students Allowance.

To find out more about financial support to part-time students check out the directgov website at :

http://www.direct.gov.uk/

You could also the student support helpline on 0800 731 9133 and ask for the free information on financial support for part-time students in Higher Education.
