One of the most exciting parts of the first week is meeting new people - if the nerves set in don't forget that everyone is in the same boat.
Most universities will allocate a member of staff (usually known as tutors or advisers) who will be able to offer you advice and support.
You can get involved with Freshers Balls, discos and other formal activities but if you don't want to you can always arrange to meet a few people for a drink.
Even if you are able to keep your old circle of friends, you may find it helpful to have a few fellow students with whom you can share ideas and problems -people in the same boat as you.
Freshers week is usually a good opportunity to get involved with sports and other activities and perhaps try something completely new. Be realistic about how many societies you will have time to be involved with -you normally have to pay something to join and you don't want to waste your money.
